Our Elmira College Enactus team went global this year, partnering with the Ireze Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to changing lives in rural Nigeria - one child at a time.
The Rochasta School Project is one of the foundation’s main focuses. In order to sustain and improve this primary school, the Enactus Nigeria School Project took a two-prong approach in best serving its needs. First, the team has developed the Ireze Foundation’s web presence by applying creativity and simplicity to the current design, and making the site desktop and mobile-friendly. By using technology, the new website constructs a favorable image of the foundation, increases awareness of its efforts, and inspires more people to donate. We have just launched the website in Fall of 2015 to help the foundation’s cause, but will be keeping track of analytics as this project continues. Redesign of the foundation’s website conjoined with the new quarterly distribution of The Ireze Update in Fall 2016 will allow the Ireze Foundation to expand upon its efforts to improve lives through education.
The second prong involved bringing this project home. The Nigeria School Project has begun to implement a Pen Pal Program between students at the Rochasta School and the Economic Opportunity Program in Elmira. The new website facilitates the communication between the two schools and allows for teachers and approximately 20 5th graders from each school to exchange emails. This program was designed to help students learn about using technology, develop their own written communication skills, expand world views and learn about different cultures.
These connections are what power Enactus as a global organization, and the streamlined website coupled with the Pen Pal program are what will allow these connections to flourish in years to come.
