Colleges and Universities partaking in Campbell's Soup Let's Can Hunger Challenge grant must address the issue of hunger and food insecurity through three parts.
1) Hunger Awareness
Raising awareness of hunger and food insecurity in communities throughout America. The Enactus team will be partnering with Circle K to host a Hunger Awareness Event where and a representative from the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Melissa Goetschius, will be speaking and doing an interactive event to help students understand the importance of the issue.
2) Urgent Hunger Relief
Teams set a goal of at least 5,000 pounds of food or dollars to be donated to a local food bank. For Elmira College, we will be donating our proceeds to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. We plan to reach our goal by asking for student meal card donations, completing dorm storms, and various other fundraising initiatives.
3) Lasting Hunger Relief
Teams seek to help those in the community deal with and address the issue of hunger and food insecurity for the long-term. We will be satisfying this part of the project by creating a recipe book to be distributed to patrons of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Recipes in this book will incorporate ingredients and products that are commonly found at the food bank or are inexpensive to purchase.
